Department of Computer Science Engineering & Information Technology is prepared to meet the challenges and is playing a leadership role in shaping the education of the 21st Century by providing unique educational and research opportunities in the forefront of Computer Engineering, Information Technology and their applications. The curriculum and syllabus are subjected to continuous up-gradation to maintain pace with the fast changing industrial scenario. B. Tech (Computer Science & Engineering), B. Tech (Information Technology), Master of Computer Science (M. Sc.), M. Tech in Computer Science and BCA are the courses currently being offered by the Department. The Department moulds young outstanding engineers who are strong in academic pursuits. It organizes various supplementary programs, which include Paper Presentations, Technical seminars & Mock Interviews in order to prepare the student for a career in the computing field or for graduate study. Special orientation is provided to the staff periodically for updating their acumen and to imbibe the latest technological changes. The staff and students are members of the Computer Society of India.
In an abundant- information epoch, the department is committed to disseminate the most up-to-date drift in software industry. This ensures flourishing career for scholar with foremost IT companies. The department activities accompany with an instance of innovation, variation and exaggeration to extend nurturing of academics. The department also contributes to the noble cause of furthering our discipline by providing training in various certification programs. The academic projects of the IT department are in-house, provided with well equipped lab and training facility under the guidance experienced faculties and invitees from the industry, involved in research program.

Laboratories
Programming Lab-1
The well-equipped air-conditioned lab is having P-IV SAMSUNG computers backed by excellent networking facilities such as cat-5 cabling with high-speed switches. The experiments are conducted on Design of data structures and RDBMS etc.
Programming Lab-2
This air-conditioned lab is equipped with P-IV IBM computers interconnected by various authorized versions of operating systems, tool kits of 8085/8086 microprocessors. The experiments are conducted on low-level assembly language programming and embedded systems.
Students also get exposure to micro controller based programming concepts using KEIL programmer KIT, with 8085C micro controller and DM software with computer system
Advanced Programming Lab-3
The Advance Programming Lab has latest configures SAMSUNG P-IV based computer systems connected with high speed switches for high end data base Servers and visual programming using VB. NET environment with Multimedia setup.
Advanced Programming Lab-4
This lab has latest configures WIPRO P-IV based computer systems connected with multiple operating systems. This lab is used for experiments in the operating systems and network security.
Server Room
Computers of all laboratories are interconnected and served by high-end servers with a backbone of HP gigabyte contained racks of switches. The server room also has three 10KVA On line TATA liebert UPS
Net Zone
Net Zone is designed to cater Internet facility for 60 users at any time continuously for 12 Hrs. a day. The lab facilitates for a pleasant environment of browsing. WIPRO P_IV systems are connected to HCL Comnet VSAT. This lab also caters for Bio-informatics experiments.
Software Development Unit (SDU)
SDU has been established for the development of in-house projects. The software development followed by SDU team follows actual industry benchmarks. SDU draws its employees from the talented pool of students and faculties of MITS showing promise of professionalism. It follows the principle of “Earn while you learn”. It has now become the central focus for computation activities through out the campus. A digital library is to come up soon. The SDU has facilities for development and testing of Micro-controller based systems. It has been the practical arena for the students to get a hands-on training in system architecture buildup.
Consultancy and Sponsored Research Projects
The department has outsourced and commissioned projects for M/s.Starlink Info, New Delhi in the area of digital attendance recorders. The main area of the development works is communication device drivers and Time Office Management, customized payroll software.
Achievements
Since inception the Department has received good number of toppers in Berhampur University rankings.
The Department received successful Student Project Certification from Microsoft in the year 2005 under the guidance of the HOD, Prof.G.K. Panda.
Four students received a certificate from the MICROSOFT company for successful completion of student project on Arthasastra: an e-banking solution.
Core Programming Lab facility:
- Labs featuring state-of-the-art technologies like Xeon servers, Wireless Networks and Sun F -280 servers.
- A unique hardware-troubleshooting laboratory to cater to the requirements of the customer support engineers of the industry.
- An exclusive LAN of the latest Pentium systems.

Hardware & Software Training Facilities
- Microprocessor lab equipped with HP 80 channel logic analyzer, 100MHz Iwatsu digital storage oscilloscope, PAL/EPROM programmer, special diagnostic computer, IC tester and In circuit emulator.
- Digital lab equipped with digital trainer kits.
- CASIT lab equipped with P-III@733 MHz based servers running on Windows NT comprising of nodes with P-III@667 MHz and other accessories.
- Thin Client lab featuring Sun F-280 server- Sun Ultra SPARC III @ 750 MHz with nodes running on Sun Blade 100-Ultra SPARC II @ 500 MHz and other accessories. The Department has signed an agreement with SUN for ‘Scholar Pack’ by which all software in Windows platform have been installed and will be updated every year.
- Wireless LAN lab having Intel Wireless Xeon Server@1GHz, Intel SBT2 Original Dual Processor Mother Board, Intel P-4@2GHz nodes, Intel Wireless Fast Ethernet Controller (10/100Mbps) and Intel PRO/2 Numbers of Wireless 2011B LAN Enterprise Access Point.
- Systems lab running on P-III@550 MHz server with Red Hat linux 7.0 and with Celeron@466 MHz nodes.
- Multimedia Lab with P 4 @2GHz systems with all required accessories.
- MCA lab equipped with Pentium Xeon server@1GHz Dual processor server with P 4@2GHz nodes with complete multimedia accessories.
Internet Facilities
We call it NETZONE, which is designed to cater Internet facility for 100 users at anytime continuously for 24 x 7. The lab facilitates for a pleasant environment of browsing. WIPRO P-IV systems are connected to 2 Mbps leased line from AIRTEL Broadband provides 24 hours Internet facility for the students and the staff of the college.
