Majhighariani Institute of Technology & Science (MITS) was started in the year 1999 under the patronage of Basantadevi Charitable Trust. The trust was formed to provide quality and holistic education to its students. An emphasis to kindle and foster the academic and artistic creative abilities and talents of students is made so as to develop them to be individuals with character, vision and resourcefulness. The Institute was conceived in response to the acute deficiency in centers of higher learning (Technical) in the country as also, the need to develop relevant human capital to meet the technology and management challenges of 21st Century. In today's context in the state of Odisha, the brand 'MITS' immediately brings to one's mind as one of the few institute that produces class of young achievers in enterprise, information technology & industry.
MITS is established with an objective of promoting research oriented advanced courses in field engineering. It has vast experience in running professional courses in the state of Odisha. Achieving excellence in education is the main aim of MITS. It has the academic excellence, good infrastructure and best teaching practice, which has helped MITS to become one of the leading institutes of the state

MITS grew commensurately with time. Having started with a mere three discipline of engineering at B.Tech level, it now has Electronics & Telecommunication (E &TC), Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Bio-Technology (BT). Now it offers M.Tech, M.Sc & BCA courses also.
The founders had a clear and well defined mission- to build an unaided, self –financed institution committed to delivering education of international standards, an Institution that would go on to serve as an intellectual resource base in India and the subcontinent. MITS stands faithful to the vision of its founders- it seeks students and faculty who take seriously their commitment to their community and their world, who are aware, active and involved. Students who graduate from MITS are expected to understand the technological, environmental and ethical challenges they face in a world of accelerating change. Recognizing that those challenges will transcend the traditional boundaries between disciplines and nations, MITS encourages education that is distinctively interdisciplinary and international.
Now, MITS has developed into a reputed Engineering Institution with ISO 9001: 2000 Certification. The main drive behind MITS is Mr. BalKrishna Panda, an enlightened visionary, our founder Chairman. He has spared no efforts to induct dedicated faculty and provide adequate infrastructure facilities. The college is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha & Berhampur University and also approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
